A gout attack happens when needle-like uric acid crystals are deposited in the connective tissues or in the space between bones in a joint. Gout seems to be more prevalent among overweight people because the risks of gout attacks increase with higher body weights. However, while a gradual loss of weight may be beneficial for overweight people who have high levels of uric acid, quick weight loss diets can actually raise the level of uric acid in the body and may even trigger a gout attack.
