Vinegar as a form of Medicine

Vinegar comes from two French words “vin” (which means wine) and “aigre” (which means sour). Early human civilization used vinegar as a cleaning agent and later on, it was used as a form of preservative. As time evolved, vinegar had been used as beverage, condiment, and a remedy to fight infectious diseases, sores, and cough. Recent scientific investigations reveal that vinegar has antimicrobial properties, but mainly in food preparation.

Although lacking medical and scientific evidences, a number of people use vinegar to treat lice, nail fungus, and warts.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a kind of vinegar made from fermented apples. Most folks say that this home remedy cures more sickness than one could imagine. It is said to cure allergies (including pet, food and environmental), sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, acid reflux, sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, and gout. It is also an effective and widely used means to reduce weight as it helps in the breaking down of excessive fats. It is also said to control blood sugar levels with regular daily intake. And more to these, it can also bring a natural glow to the skin.

Apple Cider Vinegar as a Gout Treatment

Apple cider vinegar is said to have all its curative abilities because it causes one’s pH to be alkaline. Apple cider vinegar in itself is alkaline because of its “ash”’ content. When the vinegar is burned, it will leave ash particles. Because of its alkaline properties, apple cider vinegar is a good gout treatment since it can neutralize the uric acid in the body.

Apple Cider Vinegar can be used in the following ways for gout treatment:
1. Foot / Hand Bath – Mix 1/2 to 1 cup apple cider vinegar with about 4 cups hot water. Soak your affected foot or hand for at least 30 minutes. Do this a couple times a day.
2. Topical Treatment – Soak a clean cloth in apple cider vinegar and water mixed at a ratio as above. Apply it to the sore part and wrap an elastic bandage around it. Leave on for a minimum of 15 minute to 1 hour.
3. Drink – Consume apple cider vinegar moderately. Add 1- 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 2-3 spoons of honey to a cup of warm water. Drink it 3 times a day.
